My Grandson of the Week: Taylor Bates

Taylor came into our lives when he was about 6 months old. Our Son Chris was living with his dad Keith. So when Christy brought Taylor down for Keith's weekend he would ask Chris to watch Taylor while he went to get a pack of Cigarettes and would not return for the whole weekend. So Chris would take Taylor everywhere he went, and he came over here alot with Taylor. Of course we fell in love with him. He was so cute and had the cutest little personality. Taylor is now 19. It is hard to believe that he is 19 soon to be 20 in October. Last June 14, 2010 was one of the worst days of my life as well as Taylors too. I got a phone call from UAB hospital saying he had been in an accident and they needed his mom, so knowing he was old enough to sign his permits for any medical care I knew that he was not conscious or worse. When I got down to UAB Chris, Christy, Kayce and I all walked in at the same time. They let us see him before they took him to surgery. He ended up losing his right leg below the knee, and they had to completely rebuild his left ankle. He has plates, screw, and all other kind of hardware to keep him from losing his left foot. He came home July 6, 2010 and while he was in UAB caught a bacterial infection in his blood so he came home on antiobiotics for 6 weeks. It has now been over a year since that dreadful day, He is on his 2nd prostectic leg and walks amazing and has the best attitude and outlook on life. He is an amazing young man. I am so proud of him, he lives with Dean's Mom taking care of her (Alziemers) and makes sure she takes her medicines. We will probably never know why this happened but I do know God did everything he could to keep hime with us, and I thank him for that. Taylor wears shorts is not ashamed of his prosetic leg and people will stop and ask him what happened and he tells them. I thank God for Him Daily and I know God has great plans for this young man known as Taylor Bates, My grandson.
